It would seem to be tradition that each new Market Manager to take over the role (in the last decade at least) has started his tenure with the publication of a Newsletter. Far be it for me to break with tradition. If I may introduce myself for the benefit of those who don't know me, my name is John Fisher, I was born and still live in Bideford. I was educated locally and at The City Of London Polytechnic, and I have taken up this position after three years as a Laboratory Analyst with a local company. I am looking forward to working with you all and hope that we can, together, develop the Pannier Market in a way fitting to it's heritage. |

It is unfortunate that I have to start off with a few complaints but here goes anyway: Rubbish: We seem to be accumulating a great quantity of waste materials including a great deal of cardboard. The Council is contracted to a private company for commercial waste removal and incurs a significant fee. The current level of waste may necessitate further waste collections and the cost of this would have to be passed on. Please remove whatever waste you can in accordance with the Trading regulations and we may be able to avoid this situation. Trading Hours: Concerns have been raised regarding trading hours (again). May I remind everybody that Market Hall traders must be open and trading between 8am and 3pm. Butchers Row and perimeter shops are contracted to 30 hours opening per week. I will be monitoring this situation at the request of the Council. Market Regulations: I have reformatted the Market Regulations and hope to distribute copies to you all in the near future, however I can supply a copy on request if you wish to clarify any matters. |
Christmas is coming A good deal of interest is being shown regarding availability to trade in the period leading up to Christmas so let's hope that we can all look forward to a busy festive season. As you may be aware Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve fall on a Tuesday this year. I would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has a preference for or against holding a market on those days. Decorations As I'm sure many of you are aware we are approaching the mammoth task that is decorating the market for Christmas. If anyone is available and would like to help any assistance will be appreciated. Please speak to me regarding timings. |
