Opening Times
It is with great disappointment that I note a casual disregard for the Market regulations from some traders. Once more I have to remind traders that doors open at 7.00am and stalls should be OPEN at 8.00am.
Also any regular trader who is not going to trade on a Tuesday MUST clear their stall. Having stalls left covered on a market day does not encourage customers to return to the Market.
Failure to comply with these regulations could result in a trader being asked to leave the Market.
If any trader has difficulty complying with this request please speak to me.

Electrical Testing
At our annual electrical inspection it was found that many electrical devices were left plugged in even though at the same time last year I had asked traders to ensure that all such devices were to be unplugged. As a result I shall now have to enforce Regulation 3.3 which states that "A qualified Electrician must test all electrical items for sale, use or display and a certificate displayed on the item to that effect".
Traders may arrange their own testing or I can make provision for this at a small cost. Any items not passing this test or found on the premises without a certificate after 31st March will be removed as they will be considered to be a risk to health & safety.

Tsunami Benefit
The Committee has been requested, and has granted use of the Market for a music concert in aid of the Tsunami Appeal under the name of Music For Mankind. The event is to take place on Saturday 19th March and will involve clearing the Market similar to a Boxing tournament. The organisers are making provision for stalls; pitches will be available at the office end of the Market at a rent of £5 per table, payable to the organisers. Anyone wishing to take up this option should let me know at the earliest opportunity.

Movement of Tables
Some of the tables in the Market are beginning to show signs of wear and it is becoming an uphill struggle for Martin to keep up with repairs. It is not surprising that this is the case as I am often aware of traders dragging tables across the Market fully laden with goods.
It is not acceptable to drag tables or benches at any time. If you are unable to lift a table (after removing goods) please find someone to assist you. The Market will not be held responsible in any way for damages or accidents resulting from the mishandling of equipment.
Please note that it is not the responsibility of the Market staff to provide assistance although we will help when we are able.

Advertising Opportunity
The council has decided to use the re-opening of the Café as an opportunity for an advertising campaign. I have made enquiries with the North Devon Journal who are willing to give a half page editorial if we are able to raise a half page of advertising. I am also making enquiries with the Gazette & Advertiser. Some interest has already been shown but more will be needed if this is to go ahead. More details are available from the office and I may be able to assist with artwork/copy if necessary.
