Once again the festive season is upon us so may I take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. Please can I (yet again) ask ALL traders to observe the opening hours of the Market (8.00am to 3.00pm) as this is once again slipping - particularly opening times. Our advertising states that we are open at 8.00 and we will not encourage new custom with the poor show currently happening. Some Butchers' Row traders also seem to be slipping and I shall be noting any non-conformances. |
I am aware of some concerns regarding rent increases coming into force in April 2004. The increases are essential as our operating expenses still increase each year and could indeed have been much higher. Please note that the Market is not subsidised and we have to balance our books. Increased use of heating etc only increases our overheads. We are still very cheap compared to other markets and are much more accommodating regarding removal of stock. Although no-one likes price rises I always fight your case to keep them minimal. Lets keep a sense of realism please. |

I have received complaints regarding the state of the rubbish on Butchers' Row. May I remind you that this is not a Trade Waste deposit and waste collection is not included as part of the leases for Butchers' Row or Market Place. The bin is provided for use by the public for litter. Half-empty milk bottles, food waste and excessive rubbish make it impossible for us to keep this area clean. Please use this facility sensibly or other arrangements will have to come into force. |
